ARGOT 2015 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard Sonoma Mountain
VINEYARD Designed, installed, farmed and tended, Argot’s Estate Vineyard has been a labor of love since day one, that we are proud to own 100% control of. Planted at a significantly dense 2,420 vines per acre (3 ft between vines, 6 ft vine rows) to 6 distinct California Heritage clones, our goal is to grow perfectly ripe fruit of significant intensity. Perched at 1000’ elevation on the NW-face of Sonoma Mountain at the far western edge of the AVA. The Pinot Noir blocks reside on a steep north-facing slope composed of a geologically dramatic soil formation. Planted, 2009.
PRODUCTION 100 cases
VARIETAL 100% Pinot Noir. An assortment of Heritage clones and selections: Wadenswil, Beba & Rochioli
CRUSH Night harvested by hand in a single pass on 9/15, hand-sorted by both cluster and berry, fully destemmed, no crushing
FERMENT 7-day cold soak. 5-8 day fermentation in open-top bins. Daily punchdowns, with as many as 4 at the peak of fermentation. One clonal co-ferment was carried due to lower yields to promote a healthy ferment.
AGING 22 months new French oak. Never racked before bottling. Bottled unfined, unfiltered.
NOTES Vines are tended to a meager yield each year due to clonal selection, inter-vine competition and aggressive vine-by-vine farming management. What arrives in the glass is a full-throttle expression of mountain-side, Heritage-selection Pinot Noir flavors—a tendency toward black fruit, accented by streaks of forest floor, clove spice and white flowers. These wines provide both depth and intensity, framed by a structure built to evolve for years in the cellar. A no-holds barred Pinot Noir.
