VINEYARD   From Block 6, three-quarters of an acre of fiercely steep, ferociously rocky hillside, located in Napa’s far south-eastern foothills, deeply affected by the cooling influences of San Pablo Bay. One of the latest harvests in all of Napa Valley each vintage.
PRODUCTION   150 cases
VARIETAL   100% Cabernet Sauvignon. 100% Clone 337
CRUSH   Hand-harvested at first light on October 31st. Once in the winery, the grapes are fully de-stemmed, berry-by-berry hand sorted and completely crushed.
FERMENT   7-day cold soaks, followed by native fermentation in open-top vats.  14 days on skins.
AGING   22 months in new French oak. Never racked prior to bottling.  Bottled unfined, unfiltered.
NOTES   2018 took Sugarloaf’s terroir to new level. The cool growing season, coupled with October’s extended warmth, led to a perfectly-ripe crop that produced a stunningly classic wine — impeccably pure black and red fruit, classic Napa notes of cigar leaf and eucalyptus, freshly-tilled earth, and a prominent hit of all-spice. After nearly a decade’s worth of bottling this wine, we have come to appreciate it as our most age-worthy bottling.
