Winery of the Year, 2023

January 1, 2024

One thing that I recognized throughout tasting fourteen wines (multiple times) over a period of a week is that overall, they possess dynamic purity and deliver pleasure every step. Don’t sleep on the appellation wines as they don’ t take a backseat to any thing at their price point.

Unashamedly rich and opulent, Justin Harmon’s wines are also layered, beautifully nuanced, and weave in a myriad of earth and savory accents to tame all that decadent fruit. These come highly recommended.

If you haven’t heard of Justin Harmon, you should write that name down. Bravo, sir.

Tasting Highlights – ‘8 Stunning Sonoma Chardonnays’

Bennett Valley is a prime source of Chardonnay for Argot, who has made one of this selection’s top-scoring whites. Bennett Valley’s inland setting is a cool region influenced by the Petaluma Gap with an extended growing season, which allows Chardonnay grapes to fully develop their flavors while retaining vibrant natural acidity. This is on display in Argot’s 2020 bottling, which is rich and fragrant with floral notes and focused, mouthwatering acidity.
